It's sad to say, but before Garcia's passing in ’95, The Dead were in need of a hiatus. The Grateful Dead did not give a truly exciting performance from start to finish after 1990 and anything after ’92 often borders on painful. “I love that Dead show I saw in (insert any year between 1992 and '95).” No, he was an amazingly talented guitarist, singer and songwriter - one of the most important musicians of the past century - but he has also capable of some terrible performances beginning in the 1980s.Ĥ. The Dead were also a first-rate cover band, performing songs by the likes of Chuck Berry, Merle Haggard and a whole bunch penned by their buddy Bob Dylan. The Grateful Dead, largely Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir with the help of lyricist Robert Hunter, wrote many classic songs. “Oh, yeah, I love that Dead song (insert one of about a dozen Bob Dylan titles.)” Unless you were a paid staff member of the Grateful Dead organization or one of the opening acts, you were never, ever “on tour with The Dead.” Alas, it seems large portions of all jam band fans are guilty of this one.Ģ. Yeah, like the song says, "man smart, woman smarter." In no particular order, 10 most annoying things Grateful Dead fans say. It's like hearing a wired Donna Godchaux screeching through an otherwise perfect “Playing in the Band.”īy the way, I've never heard a woman Deadhead - yes, they do exist - utter any of these irritating things. You know, like listening to Bob Weir deliver a sloppy slide guitar solo on “Little Red Rooster” or Jerry Garcia forgetting the words to “Alabama Getaway.” It's not unbearable, again, I love Deadheads, but it can be a bit grating. After a couple decades now spent around Deadheads, certain sayings keep getting repeated. That said, I’ve heard Grateful Dead fans utter numerous things over the years that have annoyed me a bit, and not just when their pupils were the size of dinner platters. I might even attend the 8th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies on Aug. I have also loved attending shows by Grateful Dead tribute Uncle John’s Band on Thursdays at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa since the 1990s. Friday performance at Darwin Brewing Company and Taproom in Bradenton. I love witnessing performances by gifted local Grateful Dead tribute band Ship of Fools and plan to attend the group's 6:30 p.m. I love listening to entire three-hour Grateful Dead shows from most of the band’s career.
